The Crusade for Social ChangeTM

Change is not someone else’s job.

Millions of people are missing from the life, work, friendship and joy that should be theirs. People with intellectual disabilities. Care leavers. Carers. People growing up in poverty. Disabled people of every kind. People whose background, identity or postcode has been used to write them off.

It doesn't have to be this way. We know — because we've lived it differently. And we've spent more than forty years watching what becomes possible when someone decides to truly see another person.

The Crusade for Social Change is a movement built on a simple conviction: that inclusion isn't a policy, a programme or a compliance exercise. It is the decision — made by each of us, in our own lives and workplaces — to stop walking past.

This is our manifesto. Will you make it yours?

  1. Stop doing what you’ve always done. Systems are broken. Pouring more money into what isn’t working isn’t compassion – it’s madness. It’s time for a fundamentally different way.
  1. Hope is everything. Hope comes from choosing to see what’s possible when every person is truly supported to be their best self. We’ve lived that hope, and we’ve seen what it makes possible. It is real, it is joyful, and it changes everything.
  1. Find out what’s possible. We were told to put our daughter in a home and forget about her. We didn’t, and what happened next is beyond extraordinary. Stay curious. Give every person the chance to show you who they are. The moment you do, the world opens up in ways you could never have imagined. You find out what’s possible by moving, not mapping.
  1. I have the right to a life of my choosing. Potential lies within each and every person, waiting to be discovered – employee, chief executive, carer, care leaver or person with an intellectual disability. We all need support in our lives. Some people need different or more support – and that support must be real and lasting. This is a human right.
  1. Inclusion ticks boxes. Belonging changes lives. Start from belonging. When a person truly belongs, they are welcomed, valued, embraced, and become part of the whole. That’s when everything becomes possible.
  1. Get the foundations right. Build on love, on equity, and on meeting each person exactly where they are. Nourishment, security, belonging, purpose: get these right and people will blossom in ways that will take your breath away.
  1. Look up. Who are you missing? Look around the room. Who is here – and who is missing? The pause before action is where wisdom lives and where change begins. To build a different world, you first need to see the one you are in
  1. One decision changes everything. It starts from one step, one decision, one person – a parent, an employer, a neighbour, a policymaker - choosing to see someone they had previously walked past. Once it starts, it ripples outwards into families, communities, organisations, and society, in ways nobody can predict and everyone will feel. Be that person.
  1. Never stop. The world depends on it. Change happens person by person, organisation by organisation. When you meet closed doors and brick walls, go around them, over them, or through them. The results, when they come, will be beyond anything you thought possible. Keep going.
  1. Face the truth. Then change it. Millions of people are missing from the life, work, friendship and joy that should be theirs. Disabled people, including people with intellectual disabilities. Care leavers. Carers. People growing up in poverty. People from ethnic minority backgrounds. People whose background, identity or postcode has been used to write them off. Assumption, indifference and systems that have never been asked to do better keep them out. We are all poorer for it. And we can choose differently – starting today.
  1. Love. The most radical act of all. Real love sees every person as a complex, gifted, irreplaceable human being with dreams, passions and something extraordinary to contribute. It asks for humility. It restores our humanity. Everything else follows.
  1. We choose extraordinary. Join us. Join us in building a world where every person is seen, valued, and empowered to contribute. A world where leaders come from unexpected places, so diversity is simply a given. A world where joy and passion fill the room because everybody gives what they can and leaves richer than they arrived. A world where belonging is simply part of life. We choose that world. Will you?
